The Act of the Craft

I take joy in storytelling, through words and through my artwork. But let’s talk art–my art–for a minute. I love to do two things in many of my paintings: I love to paint a scene and then have viewers tell me what type of  character or animal they’d like to see in it and many times I will use those suggestions. I like to paint things that give the viewer a sense of there being a story that probably goes along with the “illustration.” People ask,”What’s the story behind this?” Well, sometimes I have one, sometimes it is “in craft.” (I may have just … Continue reading The Act of the Craft

Creepy “What is It” Photo

First off, let me tell you that I hate looking at this picture. I’m posting something I cannot stand to look at. My daughter and her friend, myself and a retired Daredevil (stuntman) went hiking at a place that has haunted me since 1973, when I could swear I (and the boyfriend I was hiking with at the time) heard someone being murdered in the black wooded swamp not twelve feet from where we stood around midnight. Oh yes. People said at the time that what we heard was a cougar. Perhaps it was. However, after that night, two bodies … Continue reading Creepy “What is It” Photo

Legend of the Moss Woman

The Native American Indians of Olympic Peninsula did not like to go deep within the rain-forest valleys. There were many things roaming the dark woods, like Seatco (spelling is questionable but pronounced Sea-ahck-toe or something close to that,) who is known as Bigfoot in other places. Scary little people lived along river banks. They would throw sticks at the tribal members canoeing the waterways to get them to turn back, and these creatures were called Stick People.  Perhaps the Stick People were cousins to the Nan-a-push, the little people of the forest. There were Thunderbirds too—huge birds that could move massive boulders … Continue reading Legend of the Moss Woman

Mystery Cats and Cabin Nights

This story is an excerpt from my upcoming book of life stories titled Moonwalks and Unknowns featuring the Trespassers. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know. Set up: During this story my husband, eight-year-old son and myself live in an unfinished 12×16 two-story cabin on five acres of raw, forested land in the foothills of the mysterious Olympic Mountains within Washington State. We have no power, no running water and use a rough-shod outhouse, even during the worst weather. To shower, we either visit the State Park or John Wayne Marina. Life is not easy during this time.  Every afternoon … Continue reading Mystery Cats and Cabin Nights

Night Shift

We’re camped at a place called Graves Creek. It’s midnight. The lantern glow and diminishing campfire flames, the nearby rush of river with rising shadows of mountains I can barely discern above silhouetted tree tops, and the oxygen-rich air of this rain-forest valley conspire to keep me awake by offering me an experience too wonderful to miss should I sleep. A Lunar moth with a body the size of cigar, its wings spanning at least six inches, flutters, heavily, to the lantern light.  It bounces against the lantern base, bumps the cedar tree, and then, with wobbling flight, continues its … Continue reading Night Shift

Letter to Donald Trump for Help in Fleshing Out a Character within My Fiction Novel

November 15, 2016 Note to readers: the following letter was originally written in August 2014. It has nothing to do with current politics. It was never mailed. You are welcome to share your thoughts on my questions. I’ve spent 2 1/2 Nanowrimos on this fiction novel so far. I wasn’t able to participate this November and sorely miss the opportunity. But I do want to thank all the writers over there for their help during previous years. Here was/is my “working title and cover.” It’s just something, you know, something. I kept this letter to Donald Trump within my notes because … Continue reading Letter to Donald Trump for Help in Fleshing Out a Character within My Fiction Novel

A Little Life Update and Adventure: Part 1

Hello all. I haven’t posted in a long while but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy with life and writing related projects. I’ve been working hard. I hope to share some good news about a couple of writing projects real soon. We also have a brand spanking new grandson. Here he is saying his first hello to y’all. My husband took this photo about two hours after our grandson was born. He was born on October 30th and we drove through wind, slam-pouring rain, traffic galore and got lost twice before we found the hospital. What an adventure-filled night! … Continue reading A Little Life Update and Adventure: Part 1

Blood Moon: Part 3

I was driving too slow, as far as my husband was concerned, for the people behind me. What he didn’t get was the fact that his height and my lack of it makes a huge difference in a pilots – I mean drivers – confidence in navigating around hairpin turns with steep drop offs on narrow logging roads with deep ruts. Oh, and did I mention my very real lack of depth perception? It takes a while for my eyes to adjust to any movement, seconds really, but there is a delay between my brain and my eyeballs. My eyes … Continue reading Blood Moon: Part 3
