The Wolf Moon

Jan. 13, 2017 Close to midnight: A gawd-awful howl rises from within the trees bordering our yard and sets the neighbors Labrador barking with menace. Then all is quiet.  I turn off the lights, look out our windows. I can see easily because the ground is white with hoarfrost, the sky is clear and the moon shines almost directly overhead, yet I  can make out nothing that would have caused the dog next door to go off like that. I open the kitchen window and listen. In the distance, coyotes yip and a neighbors rooster is crowing so I don’t think whatever made … Continue reading The Wolf Moon

DEVELOPING YOUR EYE: Water

October 2016 Assignment: How will you interpret today’s theme? I love water, fresh, clean, water. I love the spring rush, the new buds and that time of year following the dead of winter when I breathe air fragrant with sap on the rise in the rain forest valleys. Revival. I love the smell of brine and taste of salt and capturing moments of time in the sand along the Salish Sea in the summer. I love the winds and moods of winter, the power of deep mystery upon fresh water lakes within the rain forest.   And fall water flow full … Continue reading DEVELOPING YOUR EYE: Water

Developing Your Eye: Photography Day 1

Today’s assignment is: What does home look like to you? I am so non-mechanical that cameras are hard for me to understand. We recently had to purchase a new “family” camera because  of a sort of funny incident. We had our two granddaughters up here for the month of July and the younger one had a birthday during that month. Well, while they were here I had t hem working on a scrapbook about t he things they were doing while with grandma and grandpa and so there were a ready supply of poster paper, fancy schmancy scissors, photos printed … Continue reading Developing Your Eye: Photography Day 1

Behind the Scene: Radio show guest: Part 1

Oct. 20, 2016 It must be around 7 am PST. I don’t know or care because I’m sawing logs after finally climbing into bed after preparing an email to Pastor Catlin covering his questions concerning myself, the Practical Preparation for the Lord’s Second Coming book, and his rundown on what I can expect this evening a mere couple hours ago. *Note to Pastor Catlin: I ran down your email “list of things” one by one and it took me this long to reply. It wasn’t until I was at the end of your email that I noticed your words: “I need … Continue reading Behind the Scene: Radio show guest: Part 1

The New Look

Hello everyone, I’d like to know how you like the new look of my blog. I switched the theme so it will read better on various devices. There is still  fine-tuning left to do but I will get to it. Please let me know what you think. In other news, a little story I wrote is now published within the winter issue of Spotlight On Recovery magazine. The article is titled Salute to Strangers. Oh, and the current header  image is a mixed media: colored pencil, magic marker, water color, and a smidgen of acrylic. It is the bottom half … Continue reading The New Look

A Little Life Update and Adventure: Part 1

Hello all. I haven’t posted in a long while but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy with life and writing related projects. I’ve been working hard. I hope to share some good news about a couple of writing projects real soon. We also have a brand spanking new grandson. Here he is saying his first hello to y’all. My husband took this photo about two hours after our grandson was born. He was born on October 30th and we drove through wind, slam-pouring rain, traffic galore and got lost twice before we found the hospital. What an adventure-filled night! … Continue reading A Little Life Update and Adventure: Part 1

The Home Office: Fall Clean Up

I’d like to welcome you to my office. The doorway frame remains unfinished–another project for another day, but come on in. My post have been few and far between these last few months. I worked so hard on book edits and formatting that I experienced severe eyestrain and made a visit to the eye doctor. A pair of new glasses should arrive sometime next week. And, Lord knows, there were ample household projects to separate me from the computer for a while, such as cleaning and reorganizing. September and October have been my months for cleaning and organizing the household … Continue reading The Home Office: Fall Clean Up

Red Sails in the Sunset

August 20, 2015 There was a World War something song we had to learn in the sixth grade. Red sails in the sunset. I couldn’t help but remember that song this last weekend while we spent an evening along the shores of the Salish Sea. The spectacular sunsets we’re experiencing here in the west are due to all the forest fires. My heart goes out to the families who’ve lost their loved ones as they bravely battled the blazes and I salute all those who fight the fires. Where would we be without your sacrifice? Here’s to you. ADDENDUM: Just … Continue reading Red Sails in the Sunset

Mind Your Beeswax

Recall the photos I took of the rose gardens? Well, at Point Defiance there were other flowers blooming too, and all were abuzz with friendly pollinators. A happier more content bunch of busy bees I’ve never seen. Oops, wrong bee. Hang on. And my personal second favorite: May our bees always be here. So many are dying off. Every one of them is so special. Continue reading Mind Your Beeswax

Point Defiance Gardens and Zoo 2

July 26, 2015 We’re at Point Defiance, going through the zoo and the flower gardens. It was a muggy day and many animals hid from the heat in tall grass and shade. We really had to search to see some of them. The fox I photographed looks almost ghostly, as if emerging from some other dimension.   The walk along the Asian pathways into tiger territory was beautiful, filled with bamboo, orchids,  statuettes and flora. The air was heavy with the scent of orchids. Very heavy on such a muggy day. There is only so much I can tolerate as … Continue reading Point Defiance Gardens and Zoo 2
