Today’s Word Prompt from the Daily Post: Marathon. The meaning I’m using is : Any long and arduous undertaking.
The more difficult something is to endure, the more vulnerable we are, that is when safety in companionship really can make a difference, even when it comes from a stranger.
Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. —Psalms 63:7
I held a wild bird again today. I held him for a long time after finding him sitting up, bewildered, inside our wheelbarrow. He’d slammed into our front-room window and knocked himself for a doozy.
I have a long history of holding wild birds. I wonder if they can tell I won’t mishandle them. As those of you know if you read ‘Lil Rebel, I am allergic to birds. I cannot have them in my home and must wash my hands thoroughly after holding them but I do love birds.
Sometimes I’ve caught them because they flew inside an open window or door and couldn’t find their way safely back outside. One time a little hummingbird got stuck between the storm window and the regular window pane. It was crucial he be rescued from his situation quickly because they, I heard, should not be immobile for very long because of their ultra-high metabolism.
Usually the birds that run into our windows recover rather quickly but this one this evening didn’t really seem to want to shake it off and fly. He preferred to just cuddle. I checked him for obvious damage to his neck and wings or his feet and everything seemed okay. His neck was my main concern.
I finally placed him on a sturdy section of an evergreen branch that could support his weight and keep him balanced inside a firm network of needles because he was slow to find his footing even there.
He stayed there on the branch long enough I grew concerned about him and so I held him some more and as I petted him I moved my head and spoke more to check if he would move his head and follow me with his eyes. He did, but slowly.
I placed him on an even better branch and still he didn’t move. For him, I’m sure, this was a long, arduous undertaking. And I remembered how I was when I came to after a severe car wreck. A woman, a stranger, stood beside the vehicle’s door and she was holding my hand through the shattered windshield. That’s all she could do. And it mattered a great deal to me that when I came to she was there holding my hand.
Empathy.
But what else could I do for my hurting feathered friend? Nothing. I really felt that allowing him his space on that tree branch was the best thing for him.
I went inside to get my camera thinking that by the time I went back outside he’d be gone. He was still there.
I spoke to him so he would know it was me moving around and took a couple shots and no more because of the auto-flash possibly bothering his eyes.
Then, to my joy, he flew away.

Thank you, although I am confused about that elbow. What are you referencing? (I re-read my post to see if I typed a word that should have been another word or something. I didn’t see it. 🙂

You shouldn’t be confused about that anyway….It is a mere idiomatic expression that is used to praise someone for doing something one finds spectacular or something….what did you expected?

Maybe so. I know I had one heck of a time writing up my ABOUT page. It was something I did not want to do. It was a hard and scary thing for me to do.

Same here…I felt it is not necessary or so…if anyone wants to know about me….I would gladly do if they really deserve it..

Well, I am one. Where there is one, there is more. But I also respect and understand when someone feels they should not be so public with that sort of information.

I am an introvert to the core…..it is extremely hard for me to do things like that…May I know your name?

Lenee Cobb is my name and it was so hard for me to post at all, let alone do an ABOUT page. I am by nature the one behind the camera and not in center stage. Let me paint the scenery of stages and not be an actor upon them. And, for a while I would ghostwrite for others and see their names upon my work. But there comes a time . . .

You DO have a way of expressive writing that is unique—your voice—as they call it.
It’s kind of like jumping (maybe being pushed) into a river or lake and learning to swim.

Well, right now (in between doing this and that chores here) I am reading your story Pink (https://mariettasparkles.wordpress.com/category/charms/)
You have a gift of storytelling. The people (characters within your stories) and yourself are so vivid! You do have a gift and I can see why others have pushed you to blog—write publicly. Your “voice” is very refreshing to read.

Sure….i dnt write everything I see…It has some bits of invisible things….fictional….the images that I create would make you think those fictional ones are the non-fiction

Yes. Us writers must be proficient in our techniques of disguise while writing truths. 🙂

Yes. Too many lawsuits of people claiming some writer wrote about them and that they are somehow “recognizable” even though the name is changed. See

for examples.

No. Way over on the northwest coast of the USA in a state called Washington. The Olympic Mountains are a mountain range in the center of a large peninsula surrounded by salt water (the Pacific Ocean, the Salish Sea, Hoods Canal, Puget Sound, the Strait of Juan de Fuca) in Washington State.

Hmm…Writing can make one a kind of obsessive person..

Writing is a “discipline.” So is dance, playing an instrument, being an artist, singing, or a martial arts pro or a figure skater. A discipline means, to me, that one has invested many many hours and years to always be better and better at what they are doing. Obsessive? Yes. But I had a friend who, when she was maybe six until she was in her late teens, spent 2 hours before school ice skating and two hours after school ice skating. It’s what it takes and we do it out of love and for that fire.

From what I have read on your blog I can tell that you have insights that can only come from an extraordinary person who has experienced things that others can learn from, empathize with, and enjoy reading about. You don’t have to let it “all hang out” there, I don’t recommend that, but you could give us a little bit. Even if it is an itty bitty bit. 🙂
