I’ll tell you, those of you who don’t already know, what Nanowrimo (Nano) is. I want you to know what people are talking about and I’d love it if you, all you readers, participated in it this year.
Nanowrimo equals NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH.
November is the designated month for novel writing. Now you know.There is a challenge at Nanowrimo.org for writers to reach a goal of 50,000 typed words towards their novel during November. The participants provide a vast amount of accumulated knowledge and encouragement to help each other do that.

I love participating in Nanowrimo, even when I don’t concentrate on pushing up my word count.
I love it for a number of reasons.
- The encouragement.
- A kick off party with other writers on October 31st is a fun alternative to other goings ons.
- Meeting other writers. Because many participants use Internet names, you never know who you might be communicating with. Maybe you are in a conversation with one of your favorite authors.
- The forums.
- Learning something new.
- Seeing what artists are doing over there. My goodness they are into it, making book covers and story illustrations and calendars for writers.
- Constantly being provided with fresh ideas and techniques and viewpoints. There are real FBI agents, cops, doctors, ambassadors to foreign countries, EMTs, park rangers, lumbermen to glean information from to make your stories more accurate.
- Being productive.
- Taking advantage (on occasion) of the sponsor offers found there.
- Participating in a group effort to provide reading and writing experiences to those who otherwise would not have them when I donate.
Last year and the year before I spent most of my time doing research for a novel I want to write real bad. It’s a historical adventure taking place in the ancient Middle East. I’m still looking for information from people who live in or have visited Cappadocia and the valley of the fairy chimneys.
I still want to know what an echo sounds like there and what a whistle sounds like there.
I want to know if there is a creek or stream running through that valley….I want to know its prehistory more than what I can find online…believe me, I’ve scoured online for 2 years learning about that area. I want to know about the things I can’t read…like smells and sounds and touch……
So even if I don’t do much “writing” on my novel, I definitely plan on stopping in, donating, and learning from others.

The idea of connecting with different people around the world seems very interesting. Maybe sometime in future I’ll be writing my novel and participating in this Nanowrimo.

As this is my first NaNo, to me it means learning and discovery.. I don’t really know what to expect yet (although I know there’ll be hard work), but from reading the NaNo FAQs and from your writing here, it sounds like it’s going to be exciting. I intend to work on just writing, on trying not to worry about my word count.

NaNoWriMo will help me get acquainted with writers in my new hometown. I moved to Sequim, WA Nov 6th. Write Ins are scheduled at the Sequim Library Mon 3 to 5 pm. I’ll show up and have the opportunity to meet several residents who like myself Love to write.
